Everybody Wins, the largest grassroots literacy and mentoring program in the Washington Metropolitan area, was CharityWorks 2002 partner. There is a literacy crisis in America. Nationally, over 38 percent of all fourth-graders do not have basic reading skills. Every day, American businesses are faced with this crisis and are forced to spend more than $200 million a year to teach remedial reading and math skills to their employees. It is a proven fact that Everybody Wins programs are an effective answer to the crisis. The nearly $500,000 CharityWorks raised to benefit Everybody Wins expanded literacy programs in DC and opened new ones in Maryland and Virginia. Because of this partnership, at-risk elementary school children continue to receive the tools they need to succeed when facing the demands of school and of adult life. |
